Restoration of the Art Studio in Stapel Castle

 

PhoneStar and PowerFloor UFH used in Stapel Castle

Object & Task

New designs for a well-known sporting goods company are created in the art studio in Stapel Castle in Havixbeck (NRW). In order to enhance the creative atmosphere, it was agreed that the floor would be upgraded acoustically and that an effective underfloor heating system would be installed. The original historic floorboards were to remain in position.

 

Solution

Firstly OSB boards were laid on the floor to protect the original floorboards. Then the floor was levelled with a bed of the insulating Cemwood woodchips. Next 10 mm thick wood fibre boards were laid over the levelling bed to improve the impact sound insulation. To reduce both airborne and impact sound through the floor, PhoneStar ST TRI was glued to the wood fibre. Then the PowerFloor Slimline underfloor heating plates were glued to PhoneStar and the Wolf Decoupling Plate was bonded to the UFH plate. Lastly an industrial type flooring was laid as the finished flooring.

Very effective soundproofing was achieved by using the slim PhoneStar ST TRI so that no noise was heard between the art studio and the apartment below. The overall configuration achieved an impact sound reduction of 30 dB, which corresponds to about a 1000-fold reduction in the sound intensity. A modern, efficient, slim heating system was achieved with the PowerFloor Slimline underfloor heating system. The Wolf Decoupling Plate on top of PowerFloor meant that a wide variety of floor coverings could have been used. The totally dry construction meant that the complete upgrading project was carried out very quickly and no additional moisture was brought into the old building.

The Soundproofing Choice for the New Recording Studio

 

PhoneStar used in new recording studio

Object & Task

The Jak‘s Light Company from Preetz in Kiel decided
to construct a completely new studio. The main tasks were the reduction of airborne sound through the floor, wall and ceiling structures and the optimization of room acoustics in the music rehearsal room and recording area.

 

Solution

A simple timber framed substructure was attached to the brick wall. PhoneStar TRI acoustic insulation (15 mm thick) was screwed to the timber studs and was then covered with acoustic felt. In addition, special acoustic absorption panels were fitted onto the side walls to reduce unwanted sound frequencies within the room. Moveable acoustic partition walls can be used as needed.

Result of this PhoneStar Project

A good sound insulation result was achieved between the adjoining rooms (especially around the control room) with relatively easy to build wall and ceiling constructions. The desired room acoustics in the music room and recording space have also been achieved, without reverberation and resonance issues. Therefore the project has been successful in its two main objectives of good soundproofing and good room acoustics. As a result of good planning and the slim designs and materials chosen, the existing rooms were only slightly reduced in size.

Save Space with PhoneStar while Achieving Peace and Quiet!

 

PhoneStar used on Instanbul Hotel

Object & Task

This new hotel on Istanbul‘s bustling main street had to be built with effective sound insulation but by using as little space as possible.

 

Solution

It was decided to build the dividing walls between the bedrooms using PhoneStar TRI with plasterboard on the metal stud walls. This improved airborne sound insulation by a very significant 8 dB compared to using plasterboard alone. On the corridor walls an extra layer of
12.5 mm plasterboard was used to give even better results.

The slimmer design attained with the PhoneStar acoustic insulation boards provide much improved sound insulation (8 dB better than gypsum board construction), and so ensures peace and quiet for the hotel guests, despite the intensive traffic on the road.

All sound problems solved in three days

 

PhoneStar used on Mapper Factory, Moscow

Object & Task

In the building of the company Mapper LLC in Moscow, is located above the office floor, a technical floor with air conditioning machines.
The target of this project is the airborne sound reduction in offices. The timing of the realization of this sound reduction measures was 3 days.

 

Solution

The floor of the machine room was acoustically upgraded by:

  • A layer of Wolf Protection Fleece was laid on the bare floor
  • PhoneStar TRI was laid floating on top of this – OSB tongue and groove sheeting was laid next – PVC finished flooring completed the floor.

A very successful soundproofing solution was achieved using the dry PhoneStar system, and was completed in only 3 days to the full satisfaction of the Mapper LLC Company.
