Phonewell® Sound Insulation WINS 'Innovative Construction Product Award'

Soundproofing has been revolutionized throughout the UK and Ireland by the introduction of Phonewell® sound insulation board, which is distributed by Acara Concepts Ltd.  Commercial and domestic soundproofing with the Phonewell® acoustic insulation board is very successful, due to its outstanding performance, its simple installation procedures, its very slim 15mm thickness and performance even at low frequencies.

Whether you are soundproofing a wall, soundproofing a floor, soundproofing a ceiling or soundproofing a whole room Acara Concepts can provide simple, yet extremely effective, soundproofing advice.  At home, undue stress can be created from noisy neighbours, home entertainment surround sound systems or road traffic, so Phonewell® sound insulation is a great solution to achieve noise reduction.  Domestic boilers or pumps can be boxed off with Phonewell® acoustic insulation, to achieve noise control.  The opportunities for using Phonewell® sound insulation in commercial situations are endless, e.g. hotels, schools, consultants’ rooms, hospitals, studios, gyms, offices, factories and warehouses.  Sound enclosures can be made for noisy machinery so that it complies with sound regulations.
Simple Soundproofing with the Phonewell® Natural Sound Insulation Material

Phonewell® is a very versatile, but simple, high-performance sound proofing product for both Airborne and Impact sound reduction.  It is an ecological sound insulation material for use on timber, steel or solid concrete substrates and is suitable for party wall sound proofing, floor sound proofing and ceiling sound proofing.  It is immaterial whether the application is for a new build, a conversion, a refurbishment or a remedial project.  Phonewell® provides an outstanding sound reduction in both airborne and impact noise, in one single product.  This is the only known product that can tick all these sound proofing boxes.

In addition, Phonewell® sound insulation does not require expensive specialist acoustic ancillary products, because all Phonewell® solutions make use of readily available, cheap, commodity soundproofing products which are used for bonding, mechanical fixing and finished wall or ceiling lining.  When upgrading separating floors, it is often not necessary to use any other products at all.

Phonewell®  is used for sound insulating separating walls, separating floors and separating ceilings without the need for complicated acoustic insulation accessory products, such as acoustic battens, flanking strips or sound absorption materials which all require adhering to complicated acoustic specifications.

Phonewell®'s long life, firmness, natural sustainability and high performance results for both Impact and Airborne in all sound attenuation applications, renders all Impact ONLY 'recycled' rubber sound barrier mats, rubber soundproofing mats, laminated and glued acoustic resilient floating floors and high density rubber acoustic wall panels, as secondary.  In addition Phonewell®’s properties remain true over its very long lifetime.  It will not shrink, crack, compress or deteriorate as many inferior unnatural products do.

More about Soundproofing, Acoustic Insulation and Sound Insulation for Noise and Sound Reduction Systems

Noise is unwanted sound, and its loudness is measured in decibels (dB). As our environment becomes more built-up we are being bombarded more and more by noise pollution and noisy neighbours. It can create undue stress especially in our own homes or workplaces where we should expect peace and quiet.

Sound insulation or acoustic insulation in buildings is required to solve two problems:

1. Airborne Sound Insulation – Sound through the Air
Airborne sound insulation is required to dampen sound waves vibrating in the surrounding air. These are sounds from television, music, talking or even snoring which pass from one room to another. This sound vibrates the structure and then passes through to the other side. The more this structure vibrates the louder the noise which can be heard, and the higher the level of sound proofing which is required.

One single layer of Phonewell® is certified at 36dB Rw (Ctr = -4dB) for Airborne Sound Insulation, certified to the ISO 140 & 717 series Building Regulations for Sound. This acoustic insulation result is for Phonewell® as a stand alone product, but in practice it is always included as part of the wall, floor or ceiling structure, so the resulting sound proofing, or total sound insulation, will be much higher.

2. Impact or Structural Sound Insulation – Sound through the Structure
Impact sound insulation is required for sound proofing the actual structure when it vibrates due to impacts directly on it. These would typically be sounds such as moving furniture or footstep noise from the floor above, or impact noise against the wall such as cupboards closing and light switches being used.

One single layer of Phonewell® panels increases Impact Sound Insulation by 21dB (ΔLw) certified to the ISO 140 & 717 series Building Regulations for Sound – Part E. This is the improvement gained by adding the board to the standard acoustic test floor, rather than the actual acoustic insulation result which is achieved when Phonewell® is used as part of a complete structure

The benefits of Soundproofing with Phonewell® Sound Insulation
  • Simplified acoustics - one single high performance product, Phonewell®, suitable for wall, floor and ceiling sound proofing whether constructed from timber, steel or solid substrate.
  • Suitable for new build, conversion, refurbishment and remedial sound insulation projects.
  • Ideal for home sound proofing as well as commercial sound proofing.
  • Provides airborne and impact sound reduction in a single product, giving 36dB Rw (-4Ctr) Airborne and 21dB ΔLw Impact results as a stand alone acoustic product, and is particularly effective for low frequency noise control, common with home entertainment systems.
  • Gives comparable acoustic insulation performance to a complicated acoustic batten floor at 107mm, whereas Phonewell® is only 15mm thick.
  • On new build projects, there are potentially considerable savings in a course of brickwork per storey and other materials, due to minimal height increase of each floor.  Construction time is also greatly reduced.
  • A 100% sustainable, natural, soundproofing product which is breathable, odourless and pollutant free.
  • Phonewell® is100% recyclable after use.
  • Simple and quick to install, offering savings in labour, materials and time.
  • Easy to work with – cuts easily with a knife or jigsaw and joints just butt up together, without the need to use flanking strips.
  • Very low labour costs with few extra component costs.
  • The minimal 15mm thickness eliminates the need to re-apply skirting and
problems associated with door thresholds on refurbishment projects.
